Happy 2019 from CityStudio Vancouver. Our spring term is well underway, featuring a full slate of 17 project matches between City of Vancouver staff, faculty and students.
As we move forward, our eyes are on the horizon of what it means to grow a movement of students in cities within the context of #metoo, inclusion, reconciliation, affordability, and a climate emergency. We continue to explore how our work can contribute to these new city building needs.
Here are some highlights from the first few months of 2019. Each of these items help lay the foundation for increasing our impact:
674 projects created for the city
December marked the completion of our eighth year, eleventh SFU Semester in Dialogue studio course and 220th campus course collaboration with a total of 5,354 students. Take a look at our latest metrics and annual report.
We have expanded our partnership with Langara
We are delighted to announce that Langara College has recommitted to another three years of working together. They have been a key partner, funder and supporter of CityStudio since 2011.
Two unique course collaborations
This term we are co-hosting the second SFU Civic Innovation Change Lab in the studio (above image). We also have BCIT Business and Nursing students working together on CityStudio’s first concurrent, interdisciplinary project with the City and Vancouver Coastal Health.
CityStudio is trademarked in Canada
The trademark “CityStudio” has been approved by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada. This will support our work licensing the CityStudio model to cities in Canada and around the world.
We are growing the movement
The CityStudio Network continues to expand, with London (ON) and Montreal (QC) in the process of launching their own CityStudios. The Vancouver team will also be travelling to Abbotsford, BC to celebrate the 1-year anniversary of CityStudio Abbotsford. Earlier this month Janet and Duane presented at the BC Public Service innovation conference, Remix.
