This unit invites students to explore the intricate relationships among urban development, water systems, and local ecosystems with a particular focus on rainwater management in Vancouver. Through a decolonial lens, students will examine historical and contemporary human impacts on watersheds. In addition, students will recognize the profound shifts in land use and the values introduced by settler communities. The curriculum emphasizes the interconnectedness of human and non-human beings, promoting ethical relationality and fostering a respect for Indigenous knowledge concerning land and water stewardship. Moreover, students will develop an understanding of green rainwater infrastructure as a pathway to ecological restoration and community well-being, while actively engaging with their own lived experiences and local environment
