This project looks at how data, storytelling and public art can help communities envision and shape their climate future.

Today, climate information is easy to find but not always easy to trust. People are constantly surrounded by headlines, posts, and claims, many of which are very confusing or simply wrong. When misinformation gets mixed in, it becomes harder for communities to have clear conversations or feel confident about what actions to take towards the issues they see. That is the problem this project set out to solve.

As a solution, this project introduces Evergreen, a chatbot that turns any climate topic into a brief and reliable explanation. Its goal is to make climate conversations feel simple and approachable instead of intimidating or technical. Users can type something they’re curious about, like Greenland ice sheets or forest fires, and get back a quick summary that explains what’s actually going on and accurate information on the topic.

Working on this project showed how much people benefit from information that feels attainable and digestible. One big takeaway was that accessibility matters just as much as accuracy when it comes to community involvement. Another was that climate communication doesn’t always need to be heavy or formal, and that sometimes the most effective tools are ones that simplify effectively.

This project recommends creating more public tools that translate complex climate topics into everyday language. Climate information can be made approachable through chatbots, interactive displays, or other modes of creative public engagement. This helps communities feel more informed, connected, and empowered to take action.
