We want to increase communication between the City of Vancouver and its residents on what their plans are for the city’s future in light of climate change and water resource challenges. We focused on building community awareness of Vancouver’s urban water systems and wanted to encourage people to learn more about the city’s water management plans.
We have developed this idea into our project, Call For Art, which is a mural competition encouraging Vancouver Youth and the General Public to visit their local watersheds and be inspired to create art. Our goal is to provide a platform for the community to examine their relationship with water. A central website provides art prompts, global and local examples and locations of Vancouver’s urban watersheds to visit.

Next Steps
We would like to partner with the Vancouver mural festival to utilize their expertise in the mural space and help promote our competition and assist with scouting locations for murals. We want to scale Call For Art into a multidisciplinary project that engages both art and geography ideas. We hope to implement our project throughout schools in Vancouver and then create a competition art kit that can be disseminated to schools across British Columbia.
