Highlights from the Studio (Summer 2019)

With the summer underway, we have a few important updates and an exciting opportunity to share with you.

The next few months will be a time of growth and transition for CityStudio. We are adding to our team and we continue to refine our systems and governance as an independent, charitable society with the aim of advancing collaboration between cities and post-secondaries. And it’s also a time of celebration, as we announce new members of the CityStudio Network across the province and beyond.

Here’s a look at what’s been happening at CityStudio Vancouver over the last few months:

782 projects created for the city

Midway through our ninth year, we’re celebrating 5,611 students co-creating projects with 250 staff to make Vancouver more sustainable, liveable and joyful. Projects have included the Vancouver Student Manifesto and Street Seats.

Growing the CityStudio team

We recently said farewell to Rochelle Heinrichs and are now seeking our next communications and events lead. Please share this opportunity with your networks. Also, stay tuned for the announcement of two upcoming job opportunities in support of the CityStudio network and project coordination as we expand our capacity for impact in Vancouver and beyond.

Engaging students in Vancouver’s new City Plan

The City of Vancouver will begin work creating its City-wide Plan following a successful motion at City Council. CityStudio is preparing to support this work as the engine for student involvement and we look forward to sharing updates in the coming months.

Expanding across Canada with McConnell and Vancouver Foundation

We are continuing to scale the CityStudio movement across Canada thanks to generous funding and support from the McConnell Foundation and Vancouver Foundation. We’re thrilled to partner with both organizations once again to ramp up the contribution of students and youth in our cities.

Announcing 3 new cities in the CityStudio Network

Earlier this summer we announced the launch of CityStudio North Vancouver and CityStudio London as we continue to expand the CityStudio Network. We’re also excited to welcome Oslo, the first European city, to the CityStudio family. In addition, our first international CityStudio in Bendigo, Australia recently celebrated its first anniversary.
