Summary

Through a concise survey our project assessed the potential communication gap between authorities responsible for conveying the status of water quality and the general public. One of the primary aims of the survey was to gauge the public’s understanding of the E.Coli issue in False Creek waters. Based on the responses of the survey, recommendations on further methods or tools for communicating E.Coli levels and safety can be made.

Communicating E. Coli levels to the general public is important in the False Creek area due to its recreational use and iconic location connecting the downtown core with the rest of the city. Although the public may be aware of water quality results in False Creek, we believe that there is a need to focus on conveying the science behind E. Coli contamination in False Creek waters to the general public in a way that is accessible and understandable, to increase compliance with recommendations from authorities.
