Doug Smith

Director, City of Vancouver Sustainability Group & Board Ex-Officio

Doug Smith is a structural engineer and a UBC graduate and has been with the City of Vancouver for 25 years. Upon graduation he spent one year with BC Hydro designing transmission towers. He is currently the Director of Sustainability for the City of Vancouver and his portfolio includes the Greenest City Action Plan, the Renewable City Strategy, the Green Operations Plan and the Climate Change Adaptation Strategy. He has managed many areas in his 25 years including Emergency Management, Structures, Greenways and Equipment Services. He also is the Structural Specialist for Vancouver’s Heavy Urban Search & Rescue Team and in that role he has responded to landslides, floods and earthquakes; including the floods in Calgary Canada and Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.
