Patricia Pon – CityStudio’s New Operations Manager
This August, Patricia Pon joined the CityStudio team to lead the day-to-day operational activities of the CityStudio Vancouver Society and its two programs. Patricia brings over 20 years of experience coordinating and managing projects and board expertise, primarily in the not for profit, education, and health sectors. Learn more about Patricia here. Our New Three-Year Strategic Plan
This fall marks the start of a new strategic plan. Over the last several months, CityStudio has been working with the Vancouver Design Nerds to develop a roadmap for the next three years at CityStudio. We look forward to sharing this plan which will be our guide to serve our community and stakeholders with great care at a time when we need each other most.
VANCOUVER PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Supporting a Safe and Equitable Return to Campus for more Civic Innovation
We are looking forward to the start of a new term supporting post-secondaries as they welcome students back to campus for in-person learning. We have 20 new course collaborations in the works and we’re so excited to see the creativity and imagination that over 800 students participating this fall have to offer. They will be collaborating with City staff on important issues around COVID recovery, climate change, youth engagement, accessibility across abilities and ages, active transportation, and more. Annual Report to Mayor & Council
This summer, we shared our annual report to the City of Vancouver Mayor and Council unveiling successful new methods of youth engagement in city building and highlighting projects from 2020-2021. Watch our report now available on our YouTube channel.
Welcome, Emily Gorham – CityStudio’s new Program Coordinator
This September, CityStudio Vancouver welcomed Emily Gorham to the Program Coordination team. In addition to an MA in Peace Education, she has a background in anti-oppression facilitation and management of social justice education programming. Virtual HUBBUB 17 in the Works
We are hard at work planning HUBBUB 17, happening virtually this fall in collaboration with the Vancouver Design Nerds. Save the date for an exciting, hour-long project showcase live on zoom on Friday, December 3. Hear students pitch as they present their projects to City staff and elected officials, get inspired, and join us as we celebrate the co-creation of City staff, students, and faculty all to make Vancouver more sustainable, equitable and joyful.
GLOBAL PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
CityStudio Sault Ste. Marie Officially Joins the CityStudio Global Network
We’re very pleased to announce the newest member of our network: CityStudio Sault Ste. Marie is the 12th Canadian CityStudio, the fifth in Ontario, and the 15th member globally. Led by Algoma University in collaboration with the City of Sault Ste. Marie, City staff, students, and faculty will co-create projects that contribute to sustainability, increased engagement, and livability.
Our New CityStudio Global Website
This summer we unveiled our new licensing website, a very important milestone for the Global program, serving to market our services and educate visitors about the model and network membership. This site features a new animation and explainer video created with the design, animation, and writing talents of Barbara and Louise at Blue Citrus.
Our Upcoming Presentation at Innovate4Cities Conference
In October we will present at the Innovate4Cities conference co-hosted by UN Habitat and the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy. Duane will be joined by Marnie McGregor, Global Urban Affairs Advisor, sharing lessons from 10 years of projects, experimentation and impact in Vancouver, as well throughout our 15-city network in Canada, Norway and Australia.
